Hi folks! Welcome back to Tammy Tuesdays, our weekly update email on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.

Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides us. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.

Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:

One Year Without Roe

Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and sent our country fifty years back in time. In Wisconsin, we were sent 173 years back, a time that predates the Civil War, decades before women had the right to vote. For a year now, Wisconsinites have been living under a cruel, draconian 1849 abortion ban that prohibits abortion even in cases of rape and incest and can lead to criminal prosecution for health care providers delivering life saving care.

Tammy is standing side by side with Wisconsinites in the fight to take back our freedoms. Right now, Tammy is leading the charge to codify the right to choose into federal law through her Women’s Health Protection Act, because women, not politicians, should make their own health care decisions. And until the right to choose is codified, Tammy is also supporting legislation that will ensure Wisconsinites can get the healthcare they need as soon as they need it. She is working hard to enshrine the right to use birth control into law, ensure women from states with abortion bans can travel for reproductive health care, and protect our doctors who provide reproductive health care.

Supporting Our Firefighters and First Responders

Tammy believes every Wisconsinite deserves to feel safe in their community and know their family is protected. But right now, our rural and under-served communities are suffering from lack of public safety services, especially volunteer-based services like volunteer firefighters and first responders.

That’s why Tammy is proud to introduce the bipartisan Volunteer First Responder Housing Act, which would bolster federal assistance housing programs for our volunteer firefighters and first responders. It’s particularly difficult to recruit, train, and retain volunteer firefighters and first responders in our rural and under-served communities, so Tammy is committed to doing all that she can to support these men and women who work hard to keep our communities safe.

Lowering the Costs of Life Saving Cancer Treatments

Cancer is a devastating disease that has touched the lives of far too many Wisconsinites. Tammy is fighting to make sure anyone who is fighting cancer receives the best possible treatments, and that means making sure these treatments are affordable and accessible.

Right now, Tammy is working across the aisle to pass life saving legislation that will prevent health insurance companies from increasing out-of-pocket costs for new oral cancer treatment medications, and ensure that these oral medications remain at the same price as chemotherapy medicine delivered intravenously. Because the last thing families with loved ones who are suffering from cancer should have to worry about is if they can afford these life saving treatments. Tammy will always work hard to make sure that each and every American has access to the lifesaving health care they deserve.

Cutting Taxes for Working Families

Tammy knows families across Wisconsin are still paying too much for the things they need, so she’s working hard to give them a break.

After helping expand the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit in 2021, which provided economic relief for millions of American families, Tammy is working to expand these credits again through the Working Families Tax Relief Act. This legislation will cut taxes for low- and middle-income American families, which will help our working families get ahead. While the corporations and the ultra-wealthy have it easy making their voices heard in Washington, Tammy is always going to fight for our working families.

Investing in Wisconsin’s Infrastructure

Tammy knows that if we want our communities to last for future generations, we need to invest in our infrastructure. With a strong record of making sure Wisconsinites have access to clean water, safe roads to travel on, and reliable high-speed internet, Tammy is committed to putting Wisconsin’s communities first.

This past week, Tammy announced almost $15 million for broadband investments in Wisconsin, which means that more Wisconsinites than ever before are going to be connected to high-speed internet. And she didn’t just stop there. Tammy was proud to secure another huge infrastructure investment for Wisconsin’s power grid system. With over $10 million in funding, our power grid system is getting strengthened and modernized to best prepare our state for the next extreme weather event. All of these infrastructure investments mean more good paying Wisconsin jobs and a brighter, stronger future for our state.
