Hi folks! Welcome back to Tammy Tuesdays, our weekly update email on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.
Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides us. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.
Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:
Standing Up for American Workers
Tammy is proud of our Wisconsin workers and knows that they’re the best in the world. She also knows that they’re facing uphill battles as they fight for good paying jobs and against outsourcing from countries overseas. That’s why she has been working to protect American jobs and keep our factories open here.
This week, Tammy won big for our workers again when she successfully included her Buy America provisions in the Senate’s version of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. Her provisions ensure that in the next ten years, all new Navy ships purchased will use 100% American-produced materials. This means that our tax-payer dollars will go toward keeping our country safe, supporting American workers, and keeping our Made in America economy going strong.
Supporting Wisconsin’s Small Businesses
Everyone knows that Wisconsin is the small business powerhouse of the Midwest, and Tammy is proud of this fact. She knows that our small businesses fill our Main Streets, making our communities more vibrant and keeping our Made in Wisconsin economy going strong.
This weekend, Tammy visited downtown Stevens Point for a small business tour alongside State Assembly Member Katrina Shankland and Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza. During her Main Street walk, Tammy chatted with small business owners about the importance of checking in with our community’s small businesses and making sure that they have the tools and resources to flourish. From securing billions of dollars for Wisconsin’s small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic to championing Buy America rules, Tammy is always going to support our small businesses.
Standing Up for Our Farmers
Tammy is proud of Wisconsin’s farmers, who work hard to feed our country and keep our economy going strong. She knows how much our farmers do for us, and that’s why she is always going to work hard to do right by them.
This past week, Tammy was proud to introduce the bipartisan Farmland Security Act of 2023, which is a new version of the Farmland Security Act that Tammy championed last year. This legislation is going to increase transparency and crack down on foreign competitors who are buying up American farmland. It’s not fair for foreign investors to line their pockets on the backs of America’s rural communities and potentially cause risks to our national security, that’s why Tammy is committed to working with anyone to put our farmers first.
Strengthening Rural Health Care
Tammy believes that every single Wisconsinite deserves affordable, accessible health care regardless of where you live. But she knows that’s not the case for our rural communities, who face unique health care challenges. Often our rural health care services are underfunded, under-resourced, or far away from where our people in small towns live. Tammy is working hard to fix these issues and make sure everyone has the health care they deserve.
Last week, Tammy took part in a groundbreaking celebration for the new Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. Tammy was proud to secure $9 million to build the new Memorial Hospital, so Wisconsinites in Lafayette County are able to have the health care they need that’s closer to home.
Saving AM Radio
Tammy knows that Wisconsinites across the state listen to AM radio to get their local news, national news, or even to get their Packers updates. She also knows that AM radio is the primary way some communities receive public safety updates, particularly in our rural communities.
That’s why when some of the world’s largest car makers started removing AM radio from their electric vehicles, Tammy took action and introduced bipartisan legislation that will ensure car makers are putting AM radio in every single one of their cars. Right now, Tammy is still working hard to pass this bill, which is receiving more support than ever from emergency management groups. Tammy believes that everyone deserves to have access to important news and life saving safety announcements, and she’s going to keep fighting until this legislation is passed.
