SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (August 31, 2023) – Above & Beyond Children’s Museum hosts this year’s signature adults-only fundraiser Tastefully Childish with a new spin. The 7th annual fete will be themed “Explore Your Inner Child”.

This year guests are encouraged to dress up as their favored explorers with costumes resembling exploration. Unproblematic history or cinema-inspired characters are also welcome. A costume contest winner will be announced at the end of the evening.

Tastefully Childish is set for Friday, September 15 at 6pm. Tickets and group packages are available for purchase for $80 per person. Attendees must be at least 21 years old to attend. The museum comes to life as Tastefully Childish guests delight in interactive exhibits, raffles, silent auction, face painting, henna tattoos, balloon creations, live entertainment, and festive music. Attendees explore experiential food and beverage stations hosted by local restaurants, resorts, sweeteries, and breweries featuring childhood food favorites with a mature culinary twist.

Entertainment will be provided by Mischief & Magic Entertainment of Green Bay featuring balloon twisters and live music from Sheboygan’s own Belle Weather Band and musician Eric Cox.

This year’s fundraising goal is set at $50,000 and sponsorship packages are still available at various levels from $500 to $5,000 and any donation level is welcome as a tax-deductible gift. The proceeds from the event help fund our services of wonderment and wellness through supporting programs and operations, including access programs for low-income families. Tastefully Childish is a yearly celebration and showcase of the museum’s new and time-honored exhibits, programming, and projects.

EXHIBITS

This year’s highlighted exhibits are:

The Culture Exchange – opened in May 2023 on the second floor – features a housing façade highlighting the Hmong culture through an interactive play space and display case with curated Hmong artifacts.  

The Calming Corner – opened in August on the second floor – centers on sensory exploration by providing a safe space to regulate, toys and resources for sensory-seeking individuals, and equipment that offers additional comfort and development of gross and fine motor skill-building.

PROGRAMMING

Fall programming is set to begin in October with the introduction of:

WordPlay – a creative writing appreciation class led by Education Manager of Above & Beyond Children’s Museum Leah Childers and Fliss Flynn of WordHaven Book House. WordPlay sessions are available for children ages 3-5, 6-8, and 9-11 at no cost thanks to a generous benefactor.

Painterly Playmates – Tuesdays in October for children ages 1-3. Participants will be encouraged to explore art tools and mediums during the process-based art class.

Mini Mozarts – will be returning on Friday mornings for children ages 1-3 and their parents sponsored by donor Greg Whelton.
