MADISON – Representative Warren Petryk (R – Town of Washington) released the weekly radio address on behalf of Wisconsin Legislative Republicans.
Hello, this is State Representative Warren Petryk, and I represent the 93rd Assembly District.
Voters in the most recent election overwhelmingly supported ensuring that our state continues to focus on assisting people to find work.
That is why my Republican colleagues and I are reintroducing our workforce reform bills to enable people to start their careers sooner in our wonderful state.
The Reemployment Assistance Act I am authoring with Senator Romaine Quinn will change the unemployment insurance program to put a greater emphasis on workforce training by providing people with customized employment plans based on their skills and talents, while also providing counseling to those about to end their benefits.
Our bill would also help people find jobs based on their unique skill sets by matching their resumes to jobs in their area while keeping those on unemployment insurance connected to the labor market.
Finally, it would direct the Governor to immediately implement the unemployment insurance drug testing provisions, so that those in need of treatment can get help and can re-enter our workforce sooner.
Other bills introduced in the workforce package address the Governor’s colossal customer service failure to assist those on unemployment insurance during the pandemic, as well as making our workforce programs more accountable to taxpayers by requiring universal metrics to determine which programs remain effective.
Republicans in the Legislature will continue to propose common-sense solutions to address the workforce crisis that is affecting our state today by helping people in our state find rewarding, family-supporting careers here in Wisconsin.
