Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR), Students for Democratic Society (SDS), and Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) are planning a rally and march for Saturday, June 25, on the corner of 1st and National Ave. starting at 1:00PM.

It’s important to honor the people and movements that came before us, and this is especially important to do so during Pride Month. Pride was born out of the LGBTQ struggle against oppression from police. It was under the leadership of Black and Brown Trans working-class people at Stonewall like Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson that LGBTQ communities took to the streets. They demanded liberation for the oppressed and set the pace for generations to demand the same. In recent years, corporations have co-opted Pride, isolating it from the political struggle for LGBTQ rights. This event seeks to rekindle the revolutionary legacy of Stonewall by keeping cops and corporations away from Pride.

Stonewall was an uprising. Pride month should not be inclusive to the police, who continuously oppress the LGBTQ community, as well as corporations who attempt to co-opt it. The Milwaukee Alliance calls on all people and organizations to participate in this event that upholds the historical significance of Pride Month.
